Happy 3!

Jillian turned three today and I find myself wondering if you can ever believe you have a (fill in the blank) year old. "Little Janie is 42 today! My how the years fly by!" Jill has been such a joy in our lives. Right now she is in a funny stage. Sometimes she is belligerant and loves to test the waters, waiting until the last minute, and after I have asked her ten times as patiently as I possibly can, to obey. She seems to know the exact second right when I am about to lose it and obeys one split second before. Smart cookie:) However, it is also her sweetest stage, okay, one of them, aren't they all sweet?, and she continually amazes me. The other day I was trying out several different hairstyles until I found something that satisfied me. At one point she said "Oh, Mommy, don't change it. You look so booaful (beautiful)." She tells me that all the time. Today I was doing some dishes and she gave my legs a hug and said "Momma, I sure do love you." I wish I could just bottle that up and listen to it everyday when she is a teenager! Isn't it fascinating the back and forth relationships with parents and children. Disciplining and teaching when they are younger, praying they will learn self-confidence, strength and, above all, obedience to Heavenly Father to lead them in life when they are older. Knowing they will experience hurt but that, somehow, all things will work together for their good? I guess the most comforting and wonderful thing is knowing that she is first God's and that He will guide us in raising her. Anyway, if I sit at this computer for too long late at night I get extremely verbose, and sometimes even a little weepy:) I'll just close by sharing another something she said lately. "Oh, we're home. It's a cage." Break my heart, she already feels like this at three!

Ukranians drive a hard bargain!

So we spent about four hours today on the side of a busy street in Brooklyn, under some train tracks no less, trying to bargain on the price of a new, to us, minivan. But those guys would hardly budge! Anyway, if you can picture a rainy day in an intimidating downtown, lots of honking, crazy driving and frustrated, yet patient children, that was pretty much our experience. Somehow though I still get such a rush from just going into the city. We were in a district today full of Orthodox Jews and it's just fascinating to get a glimpse into their everyday lives! I guess I'm doubly intrigued because I just read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. After Kevin took the two vans we were looking at out for test drives, which took over an hour in and of itself in the traffic, we individually and collectively took turns sitting in the "office," or the back of their huge van on the side of the street. Chalk it up for crazy car buying experiences- I'm hoping this is as adventerous as we get when it comes to buying cars! Oh, and the other funny thing that happened was that we had already been to this same address looking at another car and didn't realize it until we were parked out front.

Stretching is good for the soul!

Just a random of our little monkey

Saw this idea on a long lost friend's blog and loved it. Funny thing is that I haven't seen her in years and we have so many similar goals! She did it on her birthday...30 things to accomplish before she turns 30! I might add there are some items that I've included that I've been working on for a long time so for those I'm working more on mastery!
1. Study the scriptures daily on my own, with my kids and with my hubbs
2. Learn to discipline J and P in a more loving and effective way
3. Simplify my home so it doesn't require as much clean up thereby causing me less stress:)
4. Hold Family Home Evening each week
5. Learn how to coupon (Help, Doreen!) and save money!
6. Strictly follow the budget we set up! Sell my wedding ring, JUST KIDDING!

And I'll end with a few biggies for me...
28. Master the habit of going to bed earlier, notice I'm posting this at 12:29 a.m.
29. Cook dinner for the family at least five times a week...I know, I'm so lame that I don't already do this!
30. Have fun!
And two I couldn't include 'cause they're negative but I want to master them nonetheless...
1)No gossiping
2)Lose the judgemental attitude I struggle with! Give people the benefit of the doubt even if I think they don't deserve it!
I'm so pumped about this list! I just noticed most of the items have exclamation points behind them. What do you hope to accomplish in the next few years?!
